The Illusion of Freedom

Von Meuffels tries to question the motives of intelligence operatives in the case of a young man who, along with others, has brutally beaten another to death, but all he gets are half-truths and outright lies.

Four youths have beaten up a Muslim man who they allege has assaulted a young girl. The victim dies; his assailants, among them the half-Iranian Farim are remanded in custody. A little later, Farim is recruited by an employee of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as an informer and walks free. Chief Inspector Hanns von Meuffels tries to question the events around the release of Farim and finds himself caught in a mire of half-truths.
