Petronella's annual Witch Exams are coming up. She has to prove her magic skills to strict witch-in-chief Pestilla. Since little Nicky is also keen on doing some magic, he steals Petronella's spell book to study for the exam himself. When Petronella, Lucius and the twins find out what the sneaky gnome is up to, he simply darts off. A wild chase ensues, but Nicky escapes again and again. It’s only when Petronella has the decisive idea of taking on Pestilla’s shape that they manage to get the book back. In the very next moment, the real Pestilla arrives in the garden – and faints in bewilderment when she suddenly stands face to face with herself! Because she wants to get out of this situation as quickly as possible, Pestilla is more than happy to believe Leah and Louis' enthusiastic reports about Petronella's brilliant examination performance. She even awards Petronella a sparkling brooch. And as a little consolation for not being able to do real magic, gnome Nicky receives a little golden button from Petronella.
