THE PALACE - Eps 6

With heavy hearts, Chris and Georg have to part the next morning. But Chris is confident that she will come to visit Georg with Marlene's passport as often as she can. Shortly before crossing the border, the lovers notice that they are being photographed. Has state security become aware of the sisters?

Chris returns home in shock. There she finds Alexander, Marlene and Lilia in a deep sleep. A first fight starts between the sisters.

The death of the director is announced at the Palace and is shocking and painful for everyone. But now it's time to get the premiere of the new revue up and running as quickly as possible.

The mood in the GDR begins to change and people are calling for reforms. Opposition by political dissidents, the exposure of election fraud, and major environmental damage all increase the pressure on the government from week to week. In addition, more and more people leave the GDR through the West German embassy in Prague and across the Hungarian border. They want freedom and prosperity.

Chris also feels that her life is beginning to change radically. While Marlene can cross the border whenever she wants and continue her love affair with Alexander, Chris is locked in her country. After the incident at the border, Chris doesn't dare to switch passports with her sister. Georg wants to protect Chris from another dangerous border crossing and goes thousands of miles away to Calcutta, India, to work as a doctor.

Chris is devastated. The only source of joy now is rehearsing for the new show. The ensemble has grown together, and the former competitors have become companions. Bettina is convinced that Williams will take her to the West.

There is stage fright on opening night. For the first time, Chris' whole family has tickets, which Marlene bought with West German money. However, when she tries to enter the country for the premiere, she is arrested at the border. While the performance is running, Marlene is interrogated. The GDR authorities know that the twins have repeatedly exchanged passports and identities. Marlene is allowed to return to West Berlin under threat of prosecution. She is banned from entering the country again at all times. Chris is arrested by state security only hours after the successful premiere. Once more, Rosa loses a child because of this cursed Wall.

Deeply shocked by what has happened, Marlene travels to Bamberg and asks her father for help. Although Roland has been afraid to enter the GDR ever since the night he tore the daughters apart, he acts immediately. He uses his connections with the GDR Ministry of Foreign Trade and goes to East Berlin to get Chris out of jail and bring the daughter back to Rosa this time. After 28 years, Rosa and Roland face each other and look back in pain at the decision they made back then.

Only a few weeks later, the Wall falls.

What looks like a happy ending holds questions: Will the two halves of the family in East and West live reunited? Will reunification really bring the happiness they longed for for 28 years?
