Munich, 17th January – Leading European distributor Global Screen, a TELEPOOL brand, has acquired worldwide distribution rights (excluding German speaking territories) for four-part glossy documentary Jan Ullrich - The Hunted, which is available on Prime Video in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since November 28th 2023.

The Hunted (4 x 45’) documents the personal journey of Germany's only Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich.  For the first time, Jan speaks candidly about his greatest triumph, the doping scandal that ended his career and his dark descent into drug abuse.

This enlightening series is directed by multi award-winning Sebastian Dehnhardt (“Nowitzki. The Perfect Shot” & “Klitschko”) and produced by Susanne Laermann and Jan Klophaus all part of the creative team at Constantin Dokumentation.

Ulrike Schroeder, Co-Head International Sales and Acquisitions (TV) at Global Screen comments, “We are extremely pleased to have acquired Jan Ullrich - The Hunted.  Factual programming based on real-life events in the world of major sports continue to have broad appeal to international audiences.  With high production values, this unique series tells a fascinating story in a very engaging style – we look forward to offering it to our clients.”

Prime Video states "Jan Ullrich is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most important German athletes of the past decades. We have been delighted to be able to show his story - the whole story - unfiltered and exclusively to our Prime Video viewers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland," says Andreas Hartmann, Head of Content at Prime Video Germany. "The feedback from the audience and the press has been overwhelming, and we are sure that this moving documentary will also captivate viewers worldwide."

In Jan Ullrich - The Hunted, the exceptional athlete speaks about his life for the first time.  We take an exclusive and critical look at Jan’s career, his successes and his dizzying fall from grace.  Together with Ullrich viewers will travel to the locations of key events in his life: from his beginnings in Rostock to the scene of his great triumph in Paris, and then onto the setting for his darkest moments in Mallorca. "When it became clear that I would not get to see my children again, I went down a dark hole. Then came the whiskey and cocaine. That broke me."  His eventful life is narrated by himself, his companions and his sporting rivals like Lance Armstrong, Richard Virenque, Ivan Basso and Bjarne Riis. Also, his wife Sara, his mother and his brothers talk about Jans successes and failures. For the first time, Jan Ullrich  answers quite candidly those burning questions about doping. His doping-doctor Eufemiano Fuentes is also part of this compendious documentary.
